From the middle of May on, our roadsides and fields are filled with bright Corn Poppies, swaying in the wind on their tender stalks.

The colour red means many different things in many cultures. To the Chinese it symbolizes luck, vitality, fertility, and happiness. In our western culture it can stand for passionate love but also passionate anger. It means danger, violence, and it’s the colour of blood. At the same time, we experience the blood-red Corn Poppy as a cheerful sight, reminding us of the abundance of summer.
